Colleges

Further Education is important but occasionally not readily accessible. Kent County Council understands that certain factors can prevent young people taking further education courses.

The Student Awards Group provides assistance to those people who want to enrol on a college course but find they are prevented from doing so by certain obstacles such as cost.

If you are a 16 to 19 year old aiming to study, or already enrolled on a Further Education course you may be entitled to various forms of assistance from either Kent County Council or your respective educational organisation.

Home to college transport

You may be able to apply for travel assistance from Kent County Council to help you travel to and from your local further education college. Visit the home to college transport page for details.

Free school meals

If you or your children are under 19 and in full-time education, you may be able to get free school meals. Visit the free school meals page for details.

Other assistance

If you require money for books, equipment, field trips etc., then you must apply direct to the college where you intend to study and ask them what funding you could receive from their college Learner Support Funds.

Please note: Unfortunately this Authority no longer has any discretionary powers and is legally precluded from assisting with any grants.

Hugh and Montague Leney (Travelling) Awards Trust

Pupils who are over the age of 16 and are attending schools in Kent, Medway, Bexley or Bromley or have left such a school within the previous 12 months can apply for a travelling award from the above Trust.

To find out more, visit the Hugh and Montague Leney Awards Trust page.
