Craft courses

Kent Adult Education Service offers a very wide variety of craft courses taught by experienced tutors most of whom are also practising craftspeople. As a result they can therefore bring a tremendous wealth of experience to their classes.

Remember you are never too old to learn something different and exciting, and with our wide range there's bound to be something for everyone.

If you want to try something new but are unsure of what is involved, please ask or look at the course outlines as these explain the content, level and any equipment you may need.

We suggest that you do not buy any materials without first consulting an appropriate member of staff. Materials are not included in the course fee.

To get the best out of our craft courses you will need a degree of manual dexterity, but there are courses at many different levels.

One day courses

These short courses are designed to give you a taste of either a specific craft or technique or skill within a craft area. They are not intended to be comprehensive but do set out to be interesting and enjoyable.
All courses are taught in groups but with the emphasis on individual achievement.

Longer craft courses

These courses allow learners to develop their skills, learn techniques and gain understanding of specific crafts. Tuition will be a mixture of presentations/demonstrations, discussions/critiques and individual work.
These are practical courses and students need to be prepared to participate fully to get the most out of the course. Tutors will help learners to identify their learning goals and encourage them progress at their own pace.

Most groups are mixed ability, but rather than being daunted by this beginners can find it is exciting to see examples of where their endeavours could lead.
Introductory / beginners courses are not suitable for learners with extensive experience of the specific craft.

Although most of these courses start in September it is often possible to join them later in the year too.

The levels of study (including descriptions of the course codes) can be found in our publication section, City and Guild Courses and its levels.
