School uniform

Most schools in Kent ask children to wear school uniforms.

Each school has its own uniform policy or dress code. The governing body of each school decides whether pupils should wear a uniform, in consultation with the headteacher, staff and parents. Each school's uniform policy will be available on their website.

Your child's school must not discriminate based on sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief.

Help to pay for school uniform

We unfortunately cannot provide money to help you pay for your child's uniform.

If you are facing financial difficulties making it hard to buy school clothing, we recommend you speak to your child's school to find out if they sell uniforms that have been used before at a reduced rate.

Or the Citizen's Advice Bureau can offer advice and support on school costs including school clothing.

School uniform and your rights.

Unbranded uniform

The government set rules for schools to ensure school logo branded items are kept to a minimum.

Schools need to ensure that their uniform is affordable. Plain items which are widely available in high street stores give parents a choice. Discuss with your child's school if you have any questions about unbranded uniform.
