Kent Country Parks Strategy 2023-2028

Update 23 March 2023

Between October and December 2022, we asked for your views on our draft Strategy for Country Parks in Kent. The Consultation Report summarising the results of this consultation is available to view from the Documents section on this page.

How have you made a difference?

Your feedback has helped us to make changes so our Strategy is clearer. You have had a direct influence, helping us identify priorities for action that we will put into practice and deliver through our business plan.

You said

We did

We agree with the Vision, Strategic Aims and Objectives of the Strategy.

We will maintain the Vision, Strategic Aims and Objectives of the Strategy unchanged, given overall strong agreement.

What exactly does it mean to have an accessible park?

We have clarified the language in the Strategy around accessibility and what this means in practice.

It is important the Country Parks remain affordable for visitors.

We have specified in the Strategy that we will continue to offer a range of price points across cafes, shops, events, activities and education sessions for customers.

Nature and biodiversity are the most important aspect of Country Parks to visitors.

We will support this by clearly communicating what we are achieving for biodiversity through on-site interpretation, quarterly newsletters and membership of strategic groups for biodiversity.

Please do not over-commercialise the Country Parks.

We will clearly communicate through our work that all income generated at Country Parks goes back into the parks themselves, including the upkeep of facilities and maintenance of habitats.

Following the Growth, Economic Development and Communities Cabinet Committee on the 14 March, the final Country Parks Strategy 2023-28 has now been adopted by KCC and is published on our Kent.gov page.

Update 8 March 2023

Thank you to everyone who gave their views. The Consultation Report is now available in the Documents section on this page.

Your responses will be considered by the Growth, Economic Development and Communities Cabinet Committee on the 14 March 2023 with a recommendation for its adoption.

Subject to the outcome of the meeting in March 2023, the Strategy will be adopted and published on our Kent.gov.uk page.

We are privileged to own and manage a range of country parks and countryside sites which contain some of the highest quality natural habitats and landscapes that Kent has to offer.

We have drafted a five-year strategy which sets out how we intend to protect and manage these natural environments at the same time as providing high quality opportunities for individuals, families and communities to play, learn and relax. We would like your views on this strategy to ensure that we do all we can to meet the needs and expectations of Kent residents.

Your views matter

Your feedback is important in helping us to ensure we have set a suitably ambitious but achievable strategy; one which meets the needs and expectations of Kent residents.

We recommend you read the draft Kent Country Parks Strategy (which is available to download from the 'Documents' section, along with a short summary) and tell us your views by completing the questionnaire.

What happens next?

Following the end of the consultation we will produce a consultation report, summarising the feedback we have received. This feedback will be used to help finalise the strategy, which alongside the consultation report will be presented to the Growth, Economic Development and Communities Cabinet Committee before it is agreed and adopted.
