Strategy for Public Health in Kent

Group of childrenThe Strategy for Public Health in Kent demonstrates the commitment of local authorities and primary care trusts in Kent to improving the health of the people living in the county.

Good health is what we all aspire to for ourselves, families, carers, friends and communities. There are many determinants of health ranging from genetic to where you live and your social and economic circumstances.

The primary care trusts, Kent County Council and the district councils are focusing joint action on six important public health outcomes until October 2008. We will consult the public and partners on future outcomes.

The current outcomes are:

  • reducing health inequalities
  • improving mental health and well-being of children
  • fewer people in Kent will suffer heart disease
  • improved sexual health and reduction in teenage pregnancies
  • more older people able to live at home with chronic disease
  • reduce the levels of substance misuse and alcohol above recommended levels

The report covers the major areas of relevance to the Kent Public Health Strategy and provides recommendations for developing health improvement. It is the first in a series of annual reports and the many aspects of Public Health not covered in this edition, including special needs, disabilities and wider environmental health topics will be covered in later editions.
