Job swap
|
Students had the chance to swap courses for a whole day
which was initiated during Fair for All week - a celebration of the
culturally diverse college community.
The innovation gave students the chance to try something that
they may not have thought was suitable for them.
The initial swap was between a group of bricklayers and
hairdressing apprentices. The group aged 16-24 spent the afternoon
at the college's hair salons while the hairdressers made their way
over to the East Kent Building Trade School on Pyson's Road
Industrial Estates for a bricklaying session.
Benefits
- The students are able to experience a different vocational
environment and can use elements of the skills they have learned
when they go back to their usual setting.
- Hairdressing lecturer Jenny Mallinson said: "I was a little
apprehensive but the lads were all great, they really listened to
what they were being taught and seemed to enjoy themselves
too."
