Knowledge transfer partnerships
|
The use of IT experts at the University of Greenwich to
help save the Cutty Sark was awarded 'Best Partnership London' in
March 2008.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, a UK-wide programme to help
businesses benefit from expertise in neighbouring universities,
says "the collaboration between Greenwich and the Cutty Sark Trust
has yielded dramatic results".
Professor Chris Bailey and Dr Stoyan Stoyanov in the School of
Computing and Mathematical Sciences have been helping the Trust
conserve the sailing ship by using software predictions to ensure
it is dismantled and restored in the safest possible way.
Benefits
- Professor Bailey says: "We are honoured to receive this award
with the Cutty Sark Trust, which recognises the computational
modelling expertise at the University and importance of the
partnership in rescuing a national icon for the nation. This
partnership is continuing with a new project, developing
computational tools to help conserve and maintain the ship in the
future."
