Campaigns and Projects

Some of the campaigns and projects currently undertaken by KYCC are:

Votes@16

At 16, we can choose a career and pay taxes, leave home, join the armed forces, and make lots of decisions about our future.

At 16, we've been taught how to become citizens but we're denied the chance to put it into practice.

At a time when people feel that politics isn't relevant to them, young people need to be encouraged to take part in democracy, not kept out from it.

It's time we gave young people the basic right of any citizen - the right to vote.

National Children's Rights Day

A national holiday to help children understand their rights.

The Peer Leader System

Survey and discussion to address the issues of the peer leader system.

National Roma Day

Propose the 8th April to become a national holiday and give the same prominence to Gypsies that such events as Black History Month give to other ethnic minorities. The hope is that the day will help recognise the Gypsy and traveller culture, and give them time to travel and tackle the problems of bullying and racial discrimination that many Gypsies and travellers face.

Transport

Improving the safety for young people to travel on public transport and to make it free to travel and the point of purchase.
