Operation Stack has been in operation for the last couple
of days due to a combination of the weather and industrial
action.
We have all come to expect horrendous delays as a result, and
this week has been no exception.
Finding a workable solution to Operation Stack is a key
priority, which is why I was at the Department of Transport earlier
this week to discuss the issue.
We cannot just continue to accept the M20 being turned into a
lorry park whenever cross-channel services are suspended, causing
massive disruption to road users.
I believe the best answer is an emergency lorry park capable of
taking some 3,500 lorries. We have put forward a number of site
options to the Department for Transport and have asked them to look
at these as a matter of urgency.
