I hope President Sarkozy enjoyed his visit to London, which has no doubt left many people hopeful of an improved relationship between France and the UK - football scores aside.

It was with relief that we heard that support for a Sangatte 2, which would no doubt encourage more people to attempt to enter the UK illegally, has been dropped.

But it is disappointing that there was no announcement from the President during his visit about tackling the regular industrial action by French ferry workers which inevitably leads to Operation Stack and traffic chaos in the county.

In the meantime I look forward to a response to my letter to the President.
