As London's largest neighbour, Kent's relationship with the
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is a crucial one.
We have a number of key strategic priorities very much in
common: 125,000 commuters who need good quality rail services; CTRL
domestic train services due to start running in the county in
November 2009; the development of the Thames Gateway; and our
project on a Third Thames Crossing which will keep freight and
commuter traffic moving and away from London, is just the
start.
The need for a fourth London Airport on the Thames Estuary is a
subject it appears Boris and I will have to disagree on.
I have invited Boris to come to Kent and discuss these big
issues and how we are going to work together for the interests of
Kent and London, once he has settled in.
