Roles and responsibilities

  • responsible for developing and co-ordinating the directorate vision for the children, families and education service in Kent.
  • advises the council on service policies and developments to ensure high quality services.
  • accountable for leading and co-ordinating countywide initiatives and projects designed to ensure that high quality lifelong learning activities are available to support and improve the quality of life of the people of Kent.

Biography

Graham has more than 30 years experience in education. He began his career as a secondary science teacher. In 1971 he became a deputy head teacher a few years later joined the Cornwall Advisory Service.

In 1985 he was appointed School's Advisor for Oxfordshire Local Education Authority (LEA). He then took up the role of Chief Advisor to Avon County Council and moved on to become their Director of Education.

In 1996 he rejoined Oxfordshire LEA as Chief Education Officer and a year later was appointed specialist Advisor to the Education and Employment Parliamentary Select Committee.

Graham was appointed Strategic Director for our Education and Libraries Directorate in 2002 and became Managing Director of Children Families and Education in 2006.
