Schools complaints

If you have a complaint about one of our schools, the complaints procedure is different.

Step one

Please start by telling the headteacher about your problem.

Step two

If you feel you need to pursue your complaint further, or if your complaint is about the headteacher, then contact the chair of the governing body. The headteacher or school secretary will be able to provide you with the chair's name and address.

The governing body will arrange for your complaint to be fully investigated in accordance with the school's own complaints procedure.

Step three

If you are not satisfied with the way the governing body has dealt with your complaint you can contact our Children, Families and Education directorate at the following address:

Managing Director
Children, Children, Families & Education
Sessions House
County Hall
Maidstone
Kent ME14 1XQ

Step four

Finally, if you believe that the school's governing body or the council has acted unreasonably, you can complain to the Secretary of State in the Department for Education and Skills. To do this, write to the Secretary of State at DfES, Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BT or telephone 0870 000 2288 (textphone/minicom 01928 794274).
