For anyone wanting to volunteer, the local Volunteer
Centre is one of the first places to contact.
Volunteer Centres work with individuals, groups and
organisations to support and develop volunteering in their local
communities. They know about the wide range of different
opportunities in their area so can help you find a volunteering
opportunity that's right for you.
For organisations needing volunteers, the Volunteer Centres give
access to expertise in areas of good practice such as; volunteer
recruitment, help with writing role descriptions for volunteers,
how to support, manage and retain volunteers in order to
enrich and enhance an organisation's activities.
The Centres across Kent reflect the unique character of the area
each serves, but all share the same principle, that voluntary
activity is an expression of an individual's free will that enables
people to participate, to offer service and to effect change.

The Dartford Volunteer Centre works within the Dartford Borough
Council boundaries and serves a population of 86,000
residents. The Centre provide three Direct Services for the
elderly/disabled of the Borough including Befriending,
Supported-Shopping and Transport. The Centre also provides a
limited amount of practical support.
Another major function of the Centre is to provide a brokerage
service to match potential volunteers with suitable
placements. At present the Centre recruits volunteers for 170
different organisations, amounting to some 430 different
volunteering opportunities, which can be as diverse as working with
children or the elderly or those with physical or mental
disabilities, also a variety of opportunities at local
hospitals and working with animals - just a small cross section of
the voluntary work within the area.

Volunteer Centre
Shepway Volunteer Centre recruits volunteers for a wide range of
charities and social groups in Folkestone, Hythe, Romney Marsh,
Elham Valley, Hawkinge and Capel-le-Ferne areas. Opportunities
cover everything from dog-walking to work in libraries, from sports
to office work, working with the elderly to working with the
young. At anyone time there will be over 200 different
opportunities available.
The Centre also operates teams of volunteers from its own
office: volunteer drivers, befriender, the gardening Task
Force, office volunteers, volunteers to run the Centre Club - a
drop in club for local people and also the Our Memories Matter
team, which is run with Caring Altogether on Romney Marsh. A
team of Event volunteers is also retained to help with various
one-off events throughout the year.
The centre is located near the Central Railway Station and is
open Monday to Thursday 10.00 am to 3.00 pm and Fridays 10.00
am to 1.00 pm. Visiting us could open up a whole new world of
possibilities you never knew existed. It may
even change your life!
