Volunteering
Volunteering is for everyone
The range of activities is so wide that
there'll be something for you. There are many benefits not just for
the community and those you help but for you too. Whatever you
choose, your volunteering will be appreciated and
rewarding.
Choosing to volunteer can also be a way to share an interest or
learn how to do something new. Whatever the reason, volunteering
brings its own rewards and satisfactions – like learning new life
skills, increased social life, improving your local community and
much, much more.
There are many organisations working with volunteers in a
variety of ways. If you are unsure which type of volunteering
would suit you, then contact your local Volunteer
Centre, they will be able to help you decide.
Volunteers Week 1 - 7 June
201

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which celebrates the
fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the
UK. The week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the
millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while
inspiring others to get involved too.
To highlight this contribution organisations will be holding
events and activities from 1 to 7 June 2012 to highlight their
volunteers and the volunteering that they do.
To find out more and find out how you or your organisation can
get involved, visit the Volunteers' Week
2012 website.
Kent Volunteers
Kent Volunteers aims to raise
awareness of the range of volunteering opportunities available and
to encourage people of all ages and in every community to help
local voluntary and charitable bodies. Kent Volunteers is part of
Kent County Council but works closely with a range of partners
across the county.
Across Kent, in towns and rural communities, thousands of people
are already involved in voluntary activities and volunteering
opportunities are as many and as varied as there are
people with time, interests and enthusiasm to share.
Kent's voluntary sector has the largest number of registered
charities outside the Metropolitan districts and an extensive
number of voluntary groups. This reflects the time and
expertise given by volunteers in the county. Without this
generosity, so many organisations and projects could not survive
and shows the value of volunteers from all walks of life.
Volunteering and businesses
Kent's businesses support voluntary activity by offering their
assets, which can be financial, staff time, skills, premises or
equipment. Local employers and employees show many examples of
ways that volunteering can be fun and fulfilling and make a real
difference to life in Kent. Staff at Kent County
Council are encouraged to volunteer through its own employer
supported volunteering scheme.
Volunteers come from all walks of life
and are needed in all areas and activities.
Become a volunteer,
shape your community, shape your
Kent.
