Natural visitor economy

Couple walking in the countryside

East Kent has a rich variety of countryside, wildlife and heritage attractions. These all add to the diversity of what the area has to offer visitors. We want to promote of all the wonderful attractions to reap the most benefits.

Making more of these assets will help east Kent develop new markets based on growing interest in wildlife and recreation tourism and to extend the visitor season. This will allow east Kent to develop a modern and sustainable visitor economy.

Natural Economy East Kent is leading in this new approach to the visitor economy, implementing projects and launching new tourism products.

Together with Hidden Britain and Visit Kent, we are already supporting groups of businesses to help themselves grow and seize new opportunities. We will continue to create new business groups to help stimulate the local economy.

We will be developing fresh products to reach new markets. For example, we are developing walking trails designed to increase spend in businesses and attract new, sustainable markets.

Studies have shown that east Kent has the potential to become a key leisure and tourism cycling destination. We will assess the scale of the opportunity and how it can best support the economy; setting out the actions needed to develop the potential and target investment to bring the greatest benefits

Our natural visitor economy vision

Natural, rural and heritage assets supporting the revitalisation of the east Kent visitor economy, playing a key role in the development of a distinctive and quality visitor destination and with rural tourism developed in line with sustainable principles.
