Green infrastructure

Green infrastructure is the network of green spaces in urban and
rural areas and the green corridors and access links between them,
such as paths and rivers.
It’s proven that good green infrastructure supports
economic prosperity and social well-being.
- Green spaces near workplaces reduce sickness absence and
increase productivity.
- Businesses in greener settings attract and retain more
motivated staff.
- Green infrastructure is a cost effective way to
combat the effects of climate change and saves the costs of future
impacts, such as flooding.
- Tourists say the countryside and landscape are
the main reasons they come to Kent – bringing £2.5bn to
the Kent economy.
In all, good green infrastructure creates healthy, vibrant
places with a high quality of life and where businesses
choose to locate.
Natural Economy East Kent, working with the East Kent Green
Infrastructure Partnership, will deliver a framework for east Kent.
This will set out how developing green infrastructure can
benefit the economy, local communities and biodiversity.
Our work will show how a multi-functional green
network can contribute to social and economic regeneration and,
through working with stakeholders, be translated into practical
actions to improve key areas.
Our green infrastructure vision
A network of high quality, multi-functional green spaces, access
routes and attractions, that intersperse and connect our towns and
villages with the countryside and coast, contributing to the
visitor economy and supporting sustainable leisure travel, enabling
local people and visitors to enjoy the natural areas of east
Kent.
