Natural Economy East Kent

Natural Economy east Kent is a
partnership working to place the outstanding natural environment
and heritage of east Kent at the heart of regeneration and
future prosperity.
Kent County Council is developing the initiative on behalf of
the Environment
Agency, Natural
England and the district councils of Canterbury, Dover, Shepway and Thanet.
East Kent is a place of beautiful landscapes and coastlines,
fascinating heritage and world-class wildlife sites.
Despite these fantastic natural assets, east Kent faces
challenges. These include the need to raise economic
performance. We know that east Kent’s natural assets can bring real
economic benefit to the area and are working to make the most
of what east Kent has to offer. We want to harness this
‘natural advantage’,
develop sustainable
or ‘green’ tourism, bring wealth to the area and put east Kent on
the map.
As east Kent moves forward to a more prosperous future, Natural
Economy east Kent will ensure sustainability is placed at the
centre.
We are focusing initially on two key areas: green infrastructure and the natural visitor economy. This includes:
- leading the way in raising awareness of east Kent’s
natural assets and how they can support a sustainable and
prosperous economic future for east Kent.
- supporting future improvements and sustainable economic
growth.
- developing demonstration projects to show the economic value
that can be gained.
- seeking funding to take this work forward.
