About the Kent Design Guide
The Kent Design Guide 05/06 is about quality not
quantity.
It aims to:
- encourage memorable modern development that adds to Kent's
distinctive character
- avoid creating dormitory towns for London
- develop sustainable communities
- provide a starting point for good design while allowing
creative, individual approaches to different buildings and
different areas
- help designers and others achieve high standards of design and
construction by using a common approach to assessing planning
applications
- make sure that we conserve Kent's heritage for future
generations.
To achieve this, we need a major change in the way we design
buildings and their settings.
The guide aims to encourage well-considered contemporary schemes
that fit into the existing landscape. It does not try to restrict
new designs to match any historic approach to building in Kent.
The guide provides the necessary criteria and information for
assessing planning applications. It helps building designers,
engineers, planners and developers achieve high standards of design
and construction.
The Kent Design Guide 05/06
supercedes the 2000 version but for reference purposes only you can
still view the Kent Design Guide
2000.
