Crime Awareness at Wye Farmers Market
On Saturday 5 May Community Warden Richard Sinden and Warden
Supervisor Maurice Stewart were joined by Local PC Lorayne Brown
and PCSO Matt Link at Wye Farmers Market. Despite the poor
weather the market was very well attended by both locals and
visitors from around the county. The purpose of the visit was to
give advice and guidance on the subject of Crime Prevention
and was one of a number of events. They used the
opportunity to hand out leaflets and a total of 61 Smart Water
kits. The next event will take place at Challock Farmers market
on 1 June.

The 8th Gateway within Kent was officially opened on
Tuesday 19 July in the Civic Centre, Gravesend.

community issues. Steve Whitehead, Community Warden for Istead Rise
will be taking up this role.

various locations around the Borough, highlighting the work carried
out by KCC Community Wardens and also helping with crime prevention
advice as part of the wider gateway team. This role will be taken

Dover Road Safety Initiative - July 2011
Community Warden Dave Bish was involved in a road safety
initiative which was led by the Dover Community Safety
Partnership with funding from Kent Police and Kent Fire and
Rescue Service.
Workshops were held in three schools across the district
with youngsters encouraged to take the safety messages home with
them to share with parents and the rest of the family.
Primarily the workshops were aimed at Year Six
pupils, who were given road safety packs to take home. These
contained leaflets, secondary school journey planners, reflective
badges and straps, car stickers and other goodies.
The schools involved were Nonnington primary, Charlton
primary and Sandown primary in Deal. They were chosen as road
safety concerns have recently been expressed by local
residents.
Those giving talks at the schools included pedestrian trainer’s
Lesley Darling and Jane Smith, who work for Kent Highway Services,
Sgt Ian Swallow from Kent Police and Alan Faulkner from Kent Fire
and Rescue Service, with help from Kent County Council Community
Warden Dave Bish.
999 Emergency Services Day - 25 June 2011
For the third year in a row the Kent Community
Wardens were invited to participate in the Emergency Services
Day at North Kent Police Station in Ebbsfleet. Thousands of people
attended the recreation ground behind the new Police Station to
watch displays from partnership agencies such as Kent Fire and
Rescue, the ambulance service, various related Policing groups such
as anti-terrorism units, the dog handlers and Police helicopters.
Local groups from the lifeboat association explained about their
work on the river Thames.
The Gravesham and Dartford Community Wardens
provided information on the warden scheme and other local
partnership groups as well as promoting the work from all
agencies. The Wardens ran a scheme jointly with Kent
Neighbourhood Watch Association and provided a pack to cubs and
girl guides on the day.
Packs contained a set of questions which young
people then had to take around the event and complete the answers.
Once all the questions were completed they were presented with a
special badge for their uniform

Giant
Buoy - Warden Bay
KCC Community Warden for Leysdown and
Warden Bay James Crane is used to seeing weird and wonderful things
wash up on the beaches of his areas, but was as surprised as anyone
when a giant buoy floated in after breaking loose from its chains
over 5 miles out to sea. James said "The photo shows the
East Cardinal Marine Navigation Buoy which was marking a sand bar
called "The Spaniard".The buoy came adrift after the securing chain
on its base broke free sometime during the evening of 3 May and
drifted five and a half (nautical) miles, before washing
up on Leysdown Beach.
