Children and young people
When young people offend and enter the youth
justice system, we have statutory duties at almost every stage.
These may vary from final warnings to court proceedings,
supervision of community sentences, custody and resettlement.
Much of our work is concerned with preventing
young people entering the youth justice system and helping young
people who do offend to change their attitudes and behaviour to
avoid committing further offences. We do this mainly through
local Youth Inclusion and Support Panels and by working closely
with our partners.
Severity of intervention or
sentence increases down the list:
- Prevention
- Youth Inclusion and Support Panels (YISP)
- Pre-court
- Reprimand and final warning
- Referral order
- Reparation
- Community Penalties
- Youth Rehabilitation Order
- Intensive supervision and surveillance
- Custody
- Youth Offender Institute, Secure Training Centre
or secure local authority accommodation
- Post-sentence
- Resettlement and Aftercare provision
