Worried about a child?
Most children will enjoy a happy childhood, but sometimes abuse
or neglect can threaten a child's chances of happiness. It is
everybody's job to protect children from potential abuse.
Abuse can take many forms: mental, sexual and physical. In Kent
we want to make sure that families at risk of suffering from the
effects of abuse have the best support possible.
Are you worried about a child?
If you are worried about a child's welfare, don't keep it to
yourself.
The best thing to do is contact social services, unless you
think the situation is urgent, in which case you should call the
police.
You will not get into trouble for doing this, even if it turns
out that there was nothing to be worried about.
Call or email
Contact Kent now on 0300 333 5433, or e-mail us on
social.services@kent.gov.uk.
Our staff can discuss your worries with you 24 hours a day,
seven days a week.
What information will social services need to know?
If you are reporting a case of possible child abuse, the more
information you can tell us, the better. Our staff will encourage
you to give your name, but they won't give your name to anyone else
unless you give your consent. They will also need to know some
details about the child, such as where they live or how old they
are.
Every report of child abuse or cruelty is taken seriously and
will be given a suitable investigation.
