Special needs foster care
Children with special needs who require foster care include
those with:
- medical conditions
- physical or learning disabilities, such as
autism, hyperactivity, attention deficits, or reading
difficulties.
They often need:
- extra special love
- care and attention
- to be placed in foster homes that have a downstairs bathroom
and bedroom in some cases
- special medication or care routines in some cases.
Their carers must be:
- interested in helping them reach their full potential
- willing to undergo training
- willing to learn related communication or medical skills if
appropriate.
We provide support and ongoing specialist training to
carers who undertake this highly rewarding work.
Please view the list of all the other types of
foster care available. In addition to the above
information about short breaks for children with special needs,
there are also opportunities to provide general respite
care.
