Fostering older children
We are
recruiting for foster carers for older children from a wide variety
of backgrounds to reflect the diversity of the young people
themselves.
Carers for teenagers can be single or couples, but you must
be able to work successfully with adolescents. This may be
through experience of raising your own family or having
significant contact with young people through work.
You will need to share a genuine enjoyment of working with
teenagers and have a commitment to promoting their well-being with
a sense of fun.
Older children in foster care can display challenging
behaviour because of their experiences. This may not apply to all
teenagers who are fostered, who are simply children who need help
and encouragement of a settled family to enable them to reach their
full potential. As with all teenagers they will need guidance to
help them through the difficulties of adolescence.
We need people with excellent communication skills who can
provide consistent boundaries regarding behaviour and will be able
to negotiate effectively with a young person to help them face
difficulties when they arise.
