Services we provide

Training and support

Kent County Council Fostering Service is committed to providing high quality foster care for children in Kent. Foster carers play a crucial role in promoting positive outcomes for children and should have opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge. Payments for Skills is a reward based system for foster carers and is linked to carers' training and development.

We are implementing the Children's Workforce Development Standards for Foster Carers. The 7 standards are:

  1. understand the principles and values essential for fostering children and young people
  2. understand your role as a foster carer
  3. understand health and safety and healthy care
  4. know how to communicate effectively
  5. understand the development of children and young people
  6. safeguard children and young people (keep them safe from harm)
  7. develop yourself

As a foster care, you will receive ongoing training, support and development opportunities to help you in your role.  Training includes: induction, mentoring, further development and qualification based training to support you in your role. In addition to training, we provide ongoing support in a variety of ways.

We recognise foster carers achievements in learning specialist skills to help them in their role.
