Training and support
Kent County Council Fostering Service is committed to
providing high quality foster care for children in Kent.
Foster carers play a crucial role in promoting positive outcomes
for children and should have opportunities to develop their skills
and knowledge. Payments for Skills is a reward based system for
foster carers and is linked to carers' training and
development.
We are implementing the
Children's Workforce Development Standards for Foster Carers.
The 7 standards are:
- understand the principles and values essential for fostering
children and young people
- understand your role as a foster carer
- understand health and safety and healthy care
- know how to communicate effectively
- understand the development of children and young people
- safeguard children and young people (keep them safe from
harm)
- develop yourself
As a foster care, you will receive ongoing training, support and development opportunities
to help you in your role. Training includes: induction,
mentoring, further development and qualification based training to
support you in your role. In addition to training, we provide
ongoing support in a variety of ways.
We recognise foster carers achievements
in learning specialist skills to help them in their role.
