Fostering a child with Kent County
Council
Fostering is not the same as parenting, but
foster carers make the same commitment to giving a child or young
person the best possible care and help to achieve and experience
positive outcomes
Foster children come from a wide range of
backgrounds and may have experienced trauma and loss. Foster
carers follow an agreed plan to support families to rebuild
relationships and prepare children to return to their family or
move to an alternative permanent home.

Kent Social Services have around 700 foster
carers. These carers are professionals, they develop skills
and knowledge through training and experience.
Foster carers are welcomed
from all sections of the community with a
diversity of experiences. All prospective carers share a common
interest in wanting to work with and help children in care, and
feel they have something to offer.
Our foster carers are valued
and important to KCC and to the many children whose lives are
changed because of the safe, caring and supportive foster family in
which they live. Foster carers play an important role in helping
the children to come to terms with their experiences. We always
need new foster carers for our children and young people and
encourage you to contact us.
