Children's Disability Register
What is the Kent Children's Disability Register?
The Kent Children's Disability Register is a computerised
database containing details of children from birth to 19 who have a
disability. The register is a requirement of the Children Act 1989
and is strictly confidential.
Am I obliged to register my child?
No, the register is parent led i.e. you have the choice whether
or not to register your child. We would encourage you to do so as
the Register gives you the opportunity to let us know what sort of
services you would like to see provided.
Who can use the information that I give you?
The Children's Disability Register is a totally confidential,
stand-alone Register which can only be accessed by the register
co-ordinator. None of the information which we hold on the register
is shared with any other person or agency. We use the
statistics we obtain from the register for planning purposes but no
individual child is able to be identified from this
information.
How do I know if my child is eligible to go on the
register?
It is your choice whether or not to register your child. We
would normally expect the children who are on the register to have
a disability which has a "marked impact on their daily life", this
includes disabilities such as:
- Aspergers
- ADHD
- Autism
- Cerebral Palsy
- Dyspraxia
- Sight and Hearing problems
- Mobility Problems
- Learning Difficulty
- Undiagnosed medical conditions
- Terminal illness.
If you are unsure whether or not you should register your child
please contact the register co-ordinator.
How often is the information updated?
The information is updated every two years
What is the point in registering?
The information we obtain from the register gives us the ability
to look at the number of children with a disability living across
the area. This enables us to plan our services more accurately. If
you choose to register your child you will receive information
about events both locally and nationally.
