KCC Preferred Contractors

The KCC Preferred Contractor Database (formerly known as 'The Approved and Select Lists of Contractors') is managed by KCC Property Group and is designed to ensure that contractors used by the authority deliver the best possible contracting services for KCC buildings.

All contractors named on the database have been subject to a number of checks. Most importantly they have had to demonstrate:

  • Sound technical knowledge
  • Adequate taxation certification
  • Rigorous Health & Safety policies
  • Adequate insurance provisions
  • Environmental awareness
  • Financial capacity

The use of contractors from the database should mean that clients will receive at least a satisfactory level of service and workmanship.

The Preferred Contractors Database is currently under review and we are not considering new applicants at this time. Please keep checking this website for updated information and news on how to apply when the list is re-opened. We forecast that the list will be re-opened during late summer 2008.

Monitoring contractors on our preferred contractors list

Property Group monitors the performance of contractors on the database. Should any contractor consistently fail to meet satisfactory levels of service and workmanship, they will be removed. We would welcome your feedback on any contractors you have used - please email preferred.contractors@kent.gov.uk.

Do I have to employ contractors from the database?

  1. For non-schools all officers procuring building projects on behalf of KCC should use contractors from the KCC Preferred Contractors database. Should an officer wish to use a contractor not currently included, it should be possible to include them subject to the free vetting service outlined below.
  2. Schools have greater freedom under Local Management and are not bound to the use of contractors from the database. If intending to use a contractor not currently included, schools or their advisors can access the free vetting service outlined below. If schools wish to proceed with their own checking process, they or their advisors are strongly advised to check that their chosen contractor possesses:
  • Public Liability Insurance of at least £5 million
  • A Tax Exemption Certificate
  • Adequate financial credentials for the size of the project
  • An appropriate Health & Safety policy

NB. Most Voluntary Aided schools are supported by a Diocesan Board and have access to their own consultants and approved contractors. Aided schools may, on occasions, wish to make use of the KCC Preferred Contractor Database for their own projects, and are of course free to do so.

Inclusion of a contractor on a list on this website is an indication only that such contractor is (at the time that that part of this website was last updated) on the relevant list for the purpose of KCC's contract procedures. The inclusion of a name on the list does not mean that such contractor will necessarily be awarded any contracts by KCC, nor that such contractor is authorised to enter into any contracts on behalf of KCC. KCC staff are not entitled to enter into contracts with any such contractor without going through the usual processes. KCC has made an initial assessment for its own purposes of all contractors contained within the lists, however KCC does not make representation as to the ongoing solvency, reliability, and skills of any such contractor or as to any other matter relating to such contractor. Any party external to KCC intending to enter into dealings with such contractors must make their own enquiries as to all relevant matters.
