Frequently Asked Questions

Q. There is building work going on at the school nearby and we're being disrupted/disturbed by the building operations. What are you going to do about it?

A. Please speak to the headteacher. He/she will explain the full circumstances and liaise with the project manager/contractor to see what can be done to alleviate any nuisance.

Q. I was visiting the school and I tripped/injured myself due to a pot hole in the car park. I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Who do I contact?

A. We would kindly ask you to make this known to the headteacher at the school. He/she will check the full circumstances, report the incident and take appropriate action.

Q. Parents collecting and dropping off their children at school are parking in front of my drive and blocking me in. What are you going to do about it?

A. Please alert the headteacher of the school to your circumstances. He/she will endeavour to persuade parents to act responsibly when collecting/dropping off children to the school.

Q. A child was injured at school when a tree was blown over in recent heavy winds. What do you do to try to stop this happening?

A. KCC undertakes an annual tree survey of all its trees on all its school sites and takes immediate remedial action if a tree is considered to be in a dangerous condition, but it is impossible to guarantee that something similar would not happen in future.

Q. What do you do to ensure that school buildings are accessible to the disabled?

A. KCC is fully aware of its responsibilities to the disabled and sets aside funding to finance measures which will open its buildings to reasonable access. If there is a specific problem please bring this to the attention of the headteacher. Regrettably, funding does not match need so it will take time for all buildings to be adapted. See Fact Sheet on Disability Discrimination Act.

Q. I suspect there may be asbestos in my building - what should I do?

A. Please refer to the Asbestos Fact Sheet.

Q. I am not sure if the glass in a KCC building is up to current standards - what should I do?

A. Please refer to the Glazing Regulations Fact Sheet.

Q. How often should my lift be inspected/serviced and who is responsible?

A. Please refer to the Lift Maintenance and Inspection Fact Sheet.
