Litigation and Social Welfare Group

The Litigation and Social Welfare Group is part of Legal Services and comprises three teams:

• Social Services (Maidstone)
• Social Welfare Team (Canterbury)
• Litigation, Employment & Education

The Social Services teams are responsible for supporting the Social Services directorate with legal advice and representation on child protection, fostering and adoption, residential and community care, mental health and criminal injuries compensation.

The Litigation, Employment & Education Team is responsible for a wide range of contentious matters, including:

• commercial law
• compulsory purchase order hearings
• debt recovery
• education
• employment
• judicial review
• licensing
• probation
• prosecutions
• trading standards
