Your County - Putting Kent First

Kent 4 star Council

External clients

We have gained a reputation for providing a wide-ranging legal agency service for 146 local authorities and public bodies, mainly through word of mouth and recommendations. Find out who we have worked with in our list of external clients.

We are a flexible, highly motivated and experienced team of lawyers and support staff who welcome the opportunity to work for other organisations. We particularly enjoy resolving "old chestnuts" speedily and effectively. We have experience in providing the following agency services:

Commercial & Environment

All property and commercial legal matters, including sales, purchases and leases; right to buy; company, trust and charity law; partnerships with outside bodies; planning agreements and planning blight procedures; building and engineering contracts; tenders and contracts for the provision of goods and services; compulsory purchase orders; advice on common land matters; legal charges; land compensation claims; etc.

Litigation and Social Welfare

Advice and pre-court preparation on litigation cases at all levels up to the House of Lords, including advocacy in the Magistrates' and County Courts, employment tribunals and planning inquiries; specialist advice in the areas of housing possessions, disrepair, debt recovery, education, employment, judicial review, licensing and breaches of planning law. Also specialist advice in the areas of child protection, fostering and adoption, residential and community care, mental health, asylum and criminal injuries compensation.

Most work can be done "at a distance" so geographical location is no problem. With court and inquiry appearances we can either agree local agency representation or arrange to cover these appearances ourselves, depending on travelling time involved.

We can work on a long-term basis, provide a cost-effective alternative to cover a vacant post or extended sickness and maternity absence, or simply take one or two files from you as the need arises.

Your standard forms and contracts can be used or we can set up standards for you, or prepare specific appropriate documentation. We will take instructions from your Legal Department or directly from the service departments and will provide a monthly report on all work undertaken.

Our charges are competitive and negotiated individually, either on an hourly rate or unit cost basis. Where your legal fees or costs are being paid, we can collect that payment as our charge.

There is currently a capacity to accept new instructions. If you would like to discuss your needs in more detail, please telephone Geoff Wild on 01622 694302 or email legal.services@kent.gov.uk.
