Your County - Putting Kent First

Kent 4 star Council

Virginia

In 2007 the USA celebrated the 400th anniversary of the first permanent settlement from England (including settlers from Kent) in Jamestown, Virginia. These celebrations have led to the development of a partnership between Kent County Council and the Commonwealth of Virginia to encourage more business and tourism between the two areas.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Leader of the Council and the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia that commited both sides to identifying business and tourism opportunities between the two places.

A number of projects have been taken forward through the partnership, including Kent's participation in the Jamestown 2007 element of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival held in Washington between 27 June and 8 July 2007. For more information go to the Kent Virginia Project.
