With a budget of 50 million Euros, the Seventh Framework
Research Programme (FP7) represents a significant opportunity for
Kent's scientific community to secure European funding for their
research projects, researchers and infrastructure.
The programme is divided into four main areas:
The Co-operation Programme funds collaborative
research by transnational consortia of industry and academia under
ten key thematic areas:
- Health
- Food, agriculture and fisheries, and biotechnology
- Information and communication technologies
- Nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials and new production
technologies
- Energy
- Environment (including climate change)
- Transport (including aeronautics)
- Socio-economic sciences and the humanities
- Space
- Security
The Ideas Programme supports "frontier
research" in any area of science or technology, with no obligation
for cross-border partnerships.The programme is implemented via the
European Research Council.
The People programme provides support for
researcher mobility and career development both for researchers
inside the European Union and internationally.The programme by
actions known as "Marie Curie" actions.
The Capacities programme aims to strengthen
research capacities that support a knowledge-based economy. It
covers activities under seven different areas:
- Research infrastructures
- Research for the benefit of SMEs
- Regions of Knowledge
- Research Potential
- Science in Society
- Specific activities of international co-operation
