The process

The Business Continuity process follows the Business Continuity Management Life Cycle which contains five stages. Part 1 of the Life Cycle outlines the requirement for a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and a Business Risk Assessment (BRA).

The BIA identifies, quantifies and qualifies the business impact of a loss, interruption or disruption of business processes to an organisation and provides the data from which appropriate continuity strategies can be determined.

The BRA looks at the probability and impact of a variety of specific threats that could cause a business disruption. The Risk Assessment should focus on the most urgent business functions identified during the BIA process.
