Do you need to be licensed or register?
Explosives must not be stored unless you are licensed or
registered with the local authority.
You will need to be registered or licensed if you sell or store
any of the following:
- Fireworks
- Safety ammunition
- Cartridges for vehicle air-bags
- Cartridges for nail guns
If your premises are in Kent, you can either
contact us by email or letter or phone your
area office to talk to an explosives officer
or request an application form (links open in a new window).
Licence/registration renewals
Renewal reminders are sent out 2-3 weeks before the expiry of
your existing licence or registration. Renewals can be made by post
using the renewal form which will be sent to you at that time.
The fees are set by the Health and Safety Executive and are
reviewed annually in April. If your licence falls due in March, and
you wish to renew online please bear in mind late payment will
result in the new higher fee being charged. Please
contact us (link opens in a new window) if
you have any queries regarding your renewal.
