Licences and permits are required for some building and
construction work. Details of the licences and permits available in
Kent are listed below. In each case licences and permits can be
obtained from your
divisional office.
Builders skips
A skip licence is required for any skip placed on the highway.
Skips placed on the highway must conform to a skip specification
and can be removed if they are placed without a licence. Further

Licence to plant trees or shrubs
To cultivate the highway verge and plant various trees, shrubs
and plants, a licence is required. Public liability insurance will
also be required. The owner/occupier of the property will be
responsible for the maintenance of the area.
Scaffolding and building works
A licence is required to erect a scaffold which will obstruct a
highway. Before works starts on a building in the highway, close
boarded hoarding needs to be erected and a licence obtained.
Street works
A street works licence needs to be obtained to allow a person to
carry out works in the highway under Section 50 and Schedule 3 of
the New Roads and Street Works Act.
Light vehicle crossovers
A licence must be obtained for permission to install a light
vehicle crossover to a property. With the licence will also be
instructions on the construction and all details needed by the
contractor to construct.
Placing apparatus within the highway
If you need to install any apparatus in the highway such as
pipes, cables etc. you will need to obtain a licence from your
local
divisional office. |
