Biography

Jennifer graduated from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 1991 and also qualified as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand in 1991. Jennifer worked in a private law firm in New Zealand from 1991 until 2001 and was a partner in that firm from 1998 to 2001, specialising in family, youth court and criminal litigation.

Jennifer joined KCC Legal Services in 2001 and has worked in local government public child law for 12 years as part of the Social Services Legal Team.

Jennifer has considerable experience in the area of child protection, and in other related aspects of both public and private law.  Since Jennifer was appointed Senior Solicitor in November 2012 she has continued to hold a case load and to be involved in a range of advocacy.  She has a particular interest in the area of adoption law, including intercountry adoption, and regularly provides advice to Kent's adoption service.

Jennifer has played a significant role in developing and delivering a major training programme to Kent's own client base, as well as to agencies outside of the local authority. She also provides training to the client department on an ad hoc basis.

Jennifer is involved in developing policy with the client department at a strategic level. Jennifer advises on issues relating to the disclosure of Social Services records within criminal proceedings and is currently involved in the drafting of a local protocol in order to implement the National Information Sharing Protocol in connection with the investigation of child and vulnerable adult abuse.
