Julia joined the Social Welfare Team as Legal Assistant in 1990. In 1993 she was awarded the Joseph Jackson Memorial Prize for Matrimonial Practice. She was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 1995 and in July 2007, she was appointed to the post of Principal Legal Assistant.
Julia advises on all aspects of social services law, particularly child protection, but has a particular interest and focus upon the Data Protection Act 1998 and issues relating to information sharing and the disclosure of social services files. She takes the lead on disclosure of social services material within criminal proceedings and has been involved in the drafting of a local Information Sharing Protocol for the investigation of alleged child and vulnerable adult abuse.
Julia has provided bespoke training for in house foster carers focusing specifically on data protection issues, diary and record keeping and giving evidence in care proceedings.
