Carissa was educated at the University of Kent where she read Law, graduating in July 2011 and completing her Legal Practice Course in June 2014. Carissa joined Kent legal services in August 2013 in the Child Social Services Legal team in Canterbury as a legal assistant. There, Carissa assisted a solicitor closely with her case load whilst studying for her Legal Practice Course. Carissa was offered a training contract to become a solicitor with Kent Legal services after working in the team for less than a year, in July 2014.
Carissa has worked in 4 legal teams whilst undertaking her training contract at KCC: commercial property, child social services, employment and education and finally planning and highways. Having undertaken her training with KCC in various areas and rising through KCC from Legal Assistant, to Trainee Solicitor to Solicitor, Carissa has an acute understanding and appreciation of her internal clients’ many needs and the pressures they face. Carissa is careful to provide speedy and pragmatic advice, and with transactional work, she ensures her clients are kept updated, advised thoroughly and reassured at all stages of a matter.
Carissa’s final training seat was in the Planning and Highways team, the area she qualified into as a solicitor in April 2016. Carissa has a full case load of section 38 and 278 agreements, section 177 licences, deed of grants, deed of dedications, and land transfers. Carissa also guides trainee solicitors in the team, deals with stopping up order applications at court, traffic regulation orders, bond releases and advises on planning and highways law.
