Matthew was educated at the University of York and the College of Law. Matthew has extensive and authoritative local authority legal experience gained in four different authorities. Matthew was appointed as Litigation, Employment and Education Team Leader in April 2012.

Matthew is a client focused and resourceful lawyer with broad litigation and advocacy experience. He has an outstanding record of litigation outcomes and has significant experience of advising local authorities, schools, fire authorities and other organisations on employment and education law issues.

Matthew is also experienced at providing tactical advice with the aim of avoiding litigation or improving prospects. Matthew has over seven years of post-qualification experience in education and employment law and advises with confidence across the range of issues these areas generate.

In 2010, Matthew gained a distinction in the Law Society's Diploma in Local Government Law and Practice. Matthew has also provided bespoke training on various legal topics to a range of clients and leads our educational legal scheme.
