Benjamin Watts is the Principal Solicitor for the Litigation and Social Welfare Group which comprises Social Services, Employment, Education and General Litigation. Benjamin was educated at Queen Mary College - University of London and the College of Law, London. He joined Kent County Council in August 2009 from Devon and Cornwall Police, where he had worked handling a broad range of litigation matters and general legal queries since 2002.
Benjamin has practised predominantly in general litigation and Employment law, including Civil Claims, Judicial Review, applications within the Magistrates Court such as ASBOs and Liquor Licensing. Ben is a member of the Association of Police Lawyers.
Benjamin advises in relation to admission arrangements, independent appeal panels and defends schools and academies facing Judicial Review and other legal challenges on education law issues.
Benjamin also advises in relation to seeking injunctions against individuals displaying threatening and/or abusive behaviour and has obtained outcomes for clients facing threat of physical violence from difficult service users.
He is an innovative trainer who has created bespoke training packages to ensure that leadership teams within schools are aware of the key legal issues affecting their decision making.
