Biography

Katie graduated from Durham University in 2014. She took her Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of Law in 2015, and graduated in October that year.

Katie joined Kent Legal Services in December 2015. Since then she has primarily dealt with Court of Protection matters, working alongside Winsome Levy on live court cases.

Katie’s workload predominantly focuses on cases that concern a person’s article 5 right to liberty. She has gained extensive experience in dealing with challenges to people’s deprivation of liberty, and the Re X streamlined procedure that authorises non-contentious deprivations of liberty. She has practical involvement in live court proceedings, and is involved in the day-to-day running of cases that are within the Court of Protection and High Court.

Katie has assisted social workers in drafting witness statements for court, making applications to court, has drafted orders and has assisted in providing legal advice to clients. She has also assisted in delivering training and providing material for social workers on the Re X streamlined procedure.

Katie also works on ordinary residence matters and provides assistance and advice on determining responsibility of care.
