Biography

Erica was educated at the University of Sussex and the College of Law. She qualified as a solicitor in 2009, and obtained experience in private practice handling a varied caseload of commercial, public and administrative law matters. Erica joined Kent County Council as a Solicitor in June 2012.

Erica advises on a broad spectrum of local government law and policy, specialising in adult social welfare. She is regularly called upon to advise on local government policy in relation to a variety of fields including adult social care and frontline customer services. She provides robust advice which clearly sets out strategic opportunities and the impact of each potential course of action. She understands the reality that every local government decision has a commercial element and incorporates this awareness into her legal advice.

She has an in-depth knowledge of statutory duties in relation to the housing and social care of children and young people, vulnerable adults and people with no recourse to public funds. She has extensive experience of taking and defending Judicial Review applications before the Administrative Court, in addition to litigation at the County Court and High Court in respect of debts owed to the Council. She also has conduct of a growing number of cases before the Court of Protection.

Erica has devised and/or delivered a number of bespoke legal training sessions to clients on complex areas of law including housing and social care, and financial assessment under the Care Act.
