Kent is a place with prospects. It has a gateway location
serving UK and European markets; a distinct economy and diverse
range of businesses in established and knowledge based sectors; and
an outstanding natural environment and quality of life.
New infrastructure investment and, in
particular, the start of Channel Tunnel Rail Link domestic
services (HS1 High Speed 1) in 2009 will mean a step change in
accessibility. Coupled with new opportunities in the Thames
Gateway, Ashford, coastal towns, key locations and in rural
areas, this offers major scope to lift the county's economic
performance.
Economic Indicators
In recent years, and in national and regional comparisons, Kent
has achieved a good level of performance on job creation and
enterprise growth.
Significant amounts of inward investment have also been
attracted.
Performance needs to improve on knowledge economy jobs,
vocational skills and gross value added (GVA) per head. KCC and
partners' initiatives will however contribute to raising Kent's
game on these indicators.
