Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
Introduction
Why does conflict arise and why can it be so hard to deal with?
Conflict arises when there are competing demands on resources (e.g.
time, space, money, priorities) and conflict is not handled well
when people are afraid of it. This workshop teaches the practical
skills, not just the theory. Learn the essential skills for a
better working environment for everybody. If you have previously
been afraid of conflict, you will come out of this course with a
range of effective techniques for handling conflict in a positive
way.
Objectives
- Identify the importance of conflict resolution
- Practice the art of win/win
- Develop skills in “hearing” feeling statements
- Understand what others feel and how to make the most of
this
- Read the signals of the body and use them to advantage
- Know the steps in the conflict resolution process

- How to talk so others will listen
- The importance of setting the scene, timing and personal
presentation
- Coming to agreement
- When to compromise – and when not to
- A checklist of essential skills
- Recording the decision so parties stick to it
- Ethics and the importance of values
