Leadership in a crisis - how to fill your political leadership space when faced with a crisis

This is a unique first for senior political leaders who will be charged with strategic decision making or advising the leader engaged in a crisis. Local government will depend on confident, decisive and emotionally resilient political leaders to lead others through ambiguity and chaos.

Objectives

To enable you to personify, demonstrate and communicate:

  • The empowerment and enterprise to be better prepared and ready to deal with the eventuality of crisis leadership and management
  • To have the radicalism and urgency in implementing strategic leadership aims and objectives when engaged as a member of a crisis management team
  • The tools and professionalism to evaluate if their organisation has the business continuity systems and support mechanisms in place to ensure that the initial leadership response to a crisis is effective and resilient to strategic shock.

Course content

This course uses immersive learning technologies that deliver a unique real time leadership decision making experience. You will on conclusion understand fully the following crisis leadership principles:

  1. Not all problems are the same, and will fall into a spectrum of 'Tame Problems' to the complete chaotic, ‘Wicked Problems’
  2. Imagine the perfect information that you would like to have that allows you to address the issue with high confidence and then compare that to the information you either have or are likely to get
  3. Think about the consumer that you are actually engaging—what is the risk tolerance of that person? What are your decision metrics? What kind of decision are they trying to support?
  4. The tyranny of time, you can think about these things a lot but if you have to answer the question in the hour you fight with who or what you have got
