Future leaders programme

Introduction

We are looking for dynamic, innovative and ambitious people who are ready to take the next step in becoming a strategic leader. The programme will deliver challenging leadership concepts and principles that will support the thrust of 'Bold Steps for Kent 2014' and 'Change to keep succeeding transformation strategy'. It will focus on a new way of working in localities and with partners reflecting the design principles upon which the 'Bold steps for Kent' transformation strategy is based. Objectives

Using Kent Competencies to personify, demonstrate and communicate

  • Directing energy and focus that will deliver empowerment and enterprise
  • Ability to influence and negotiate to achieve outcomes and delivery
  • Customer focus and enhancing working with people and partnerships
  • Using truth and judgement to create a positive environment that develops trust
  • Have the character and courage for ethical and political challenges facing senior leaders

 

Course content

This course is participative and interactive, examining your personal leadership style, analysing organisational leadership linked responsibilities and accountabilities. Introduction to core qualities and values of effective public sector leaders linked to core philosophy of the public sector leadership environment.

An introduction to leading others with conscious leadership and improving the performance of organisation through engaging and developing successful partnerships. Examine the relationship between the democratic political process and political decision making and its impact on government institutions.

Developing a strategic perspective, through whole systems thinking on the wider context and developing a good understanding of Cabinet responsibility, organisational integrity and ethical issues within local government.

By the end of the course delegates will have learnt techniques to:

  • Increase personal competence in conversations and compassion
  • Deliver radicalism and urgency in your dealings with others
  • Ensure that truth and judgement dominates your decision making
  • Have tools and professionalism to challenge and embed new ways of working

Duration: 5 days split into 1 x 2 day and 3 x day seminars
