Excel training - introductory course

Introduction

This training course is aimed at new and self-taught users of Excel. Starting from the basics, the training course leads into higher level use of the application. The training course is tutor led and practical in nature. Delegates will have plenty of hands-on time to practise skills learnt. A series of graded consolidation training exercises will be used to ensure an optimum learning experience.

Course content

The training course will cover an explanation of the Excel environment:

  • What is a cell and cell referencing
  • Columns and rows
  • Selecting ranges
  • Entering data
  • Widening columns
  • Naming, copying, moving, inserting and deleting worksheets
  • How to enter/edit/delete data
  • Inserting/deleting rows and columns
  • Explanation of and creating data series for dates, numbers and text entries
  • Use of cut and paste with both the mouse and toolbar to move and copy data to other worksheets, other workbooks and other applications
  • Using the Autosum function
  • Using formulae to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Calculating percentages
  • Using basic functions: Average, Min, Max, Count
  • Using the If function
  • Using Absolute and Relative referencing
  • Linking to other cells and other worksheets
  • Creating embedded and chart sheets, editing charts, inserting data into existing charts
  • Using the Print facilities including printing specific worksheets, headers and footers, fields, etc.
