Playground inspection and maintenance
Introduction
This programme is designed for staff involved in routine
(daily/weekly) school playground inspections.The course aims to
increase awareness of playground inspection and maintenance.
Objectives
- To reduce the number of injuries to children on
playgrounds
each year.
- To gain a RoSPA Certificate of Training and eligibility to take
the Register of Play
Inspectors International exam for Routine Inspections.
Course content
- Child development and the importance of play
- Accidents, their type, frequency and severity
- Legal – how appropriate Acts of Parliament and EN1176 Part 7
may affect the operator
- Documentation, reporting and importance of record keeping
- A logical and systematic approach to inspecting, including risk
assessment
Inspection of:
- Approaches to playground, including signs, traffic, road
barriers etc.
- Immediate surround – vegetation, fences, gates etc.
- Active playground area – seats, litter bins, vegetation,
lighting, furniture, non-play
items
- Specific play equipment, features and surfacing
- Will also involve a practical site inspection of a local
playground.
Duration: 1 day
