Playground inspection and maintenance

Introduction

This programme is designed for staff involved in routine (daily/weekly) school playground inspections.The course aims to increase awareness of playground inspection and maintenance.

Objectives

  • To reduce the number of injuries to children on playgrounds
    each year.
  • To gain a RoSPA Certificate of Training and eligibility to take the Register of Play
    Inspectors International exam for Routine Inspections.

Course content

  • Child development and the importance of play
  • Accidents, their type, frequency and severity
  • Legal – how appropriate Acts of Parliament and EN1176 Part 7 may affect the operator
  • Documentation, reporting and importance of record keeping
  • A logical and systematic approach to inspecting, including risk assessment

Inspection of:

  • Approaches to playground, including signs, traffic, road barriers etc.
  • Immediate surround – vegetation, fences, gates etc.
  • Active playground area – seats, litter bins, vegetation, lighting, furniture, non-play
    items
  • Specific play equipment, features and surfacing
  • Will also involve a practical site inspection of a local playground.

Duration: 1 day
Cost: £435 per delegate
