Electricity at work P.A.T portable appliance testing
Introduction
This course is designed for any person who is responsible for
undertaking visual inspections and electrical tests of portable
appliances. Managers who are responsible for determining and
implementing a portable appliance test regime.
Objectives
The Electricity at Work Regulations imposes a duty on an
employer to ensure that
all electrical equipment is suitable and safe for use. Explicit
reference is made to
the additional hazards associated with the use of hand-held
portable and transportable equipment. The course examines why such
equipment poses a particular risk and what steps can be taken to
reduce those risks.
The candidates' understanding of the subject will be
continuously assessed and formally tested by a short multiple
choice test, a formal visual inspection and a formal electrical
test of a piece of equipment.
Course content
By the end of the course candidates should be able to:
- Safely carry out formal visual inspections and electrical
testing.
- Understand the need for inspections and tests.
- Understand the potential hazards of using equipment.
- Assess risks associated with the use of portable
appliances.
- Determine appropriate inspection and testing intervals.
